Valli 2016 Gibbston Pinot Noir
Winery : Valli
96 POINTS BOB CAMPBELL
99 POINTS RAYMOND CHAN
Rich garnet hue with aromas of rose petal, ripe cherry, mushroom, cardamom and cedar on the nose. The palate has layers of bright red fruit (cherry raspberry and a hint of cranberry), dried herb (wild thyme, rosemary) and earthiness (mushroom, loam, cedar). Highly aromatic, richly concentrated and incredibly energetic, this Pinot Noir shows the amazing multi faceted characters of Gibbston.
Grant Taylor the winemaker aims to be invisible. A tall order one could say, given his big personality, bags of enthusiasm and pioneering pinot work in Otago. What he seeks is not to be noticed in a winemaking sense, letting each individual site that makes up the Valli Pinot Noir quartet, speak with clarity and uniqueness.
