Nocton Vineyard 2015 Willow Reserve Pinot Noir
Winery : Nocton Vineyard
93 Points - James Halliday
This is a poised and beautiful pinot, and represents great value. The aromas are pretty and they lead into clear, focused dark fruit, without heaviness. The name is entirely appropriate - it's a supple, lithe pinot but with plenty of flavour.
Nocton Vineyard was established in Tasmania's Coal Valley in 1999 (Domaine A's Peter Althus provided early consultancy services), largely to supply the growing market for premium pinot noir into China. The property was originally part of the Carrington Plains estate (c1814), owned by a succession of early Governors of Van Diemans Land.
The vines are planted on north-east facing slopes of dolerite soils over calcareous and sandstone subsoils.
