Weingut Bernhard Huber 2014 Malterdinger
Winery : Huber
Such a gorgeous and complex wine. Light to medium bodied, with smoky dark fruit and juicy red and sour cherries. There is a delightful floral element of cut violets but a wonderful explosive mid palate of strawberries and maraschino cherries which provide an amazing length. Perfect acidity combined with the fine tannin and delicious mouthfeel make it enjoyable now but will cellar well.
"From vines up to 25 years of age, with deeper roots, 30 to 35% whole bunch. After harvesting the grapes with a crop round about 55 hl per ha, this wine matures for 12 months in three- and four-year-old barriques. The Malterdinger is Huber’s village wine." - Huber
Germany is lauded as the 'new' great area for pinot noir. The development of vine culture and the resultant quality of wines has been on a spectacular trajectory for the last decade and a half. Top producer Bernhard Huber is located in Baden-Württemberg - the winery is in Malterdingen in the deep south-west of this region, located on the foothills of the Black Forest mountains between Strasbourg in the French Alsace Region and the city Basel in Switzerland.
