Terra Sancta 2013 Shingle Beach Pinot Noir
Winery : Terra Sancta
95 POINTS BOB CAMPBELL
Winemaker notes: The colour is ruby and unique for Central Otago. The wine has an intense perfume of exotic spices, fresh leather and cassis. The palate is concentrated with rich layers of dark cherries and earthy flavours. Fine tannins lead to a sustained, enigmatic finish.
Planted by Gary Andres, an Oregon Pinot Noir pioneer, Shingle Beach is another of Terra Sancta's single blocks. It is densely planted and the grapes reach optimal ripeness at low sugar levels, bearing tiny, pristine grapes. Hallmarks are fine-grained chalky tannins, minerality (blood and iron), earthiness and juicy, vibrant dark fruit flavours, all at under 13% alcohol. The finish is nicely savoury, a touch of cocoa at the end. Vintage 2012 was the inaugural release.
